Dizziness is a common complaint in any chiropractic office. But the biggest challenge a chiropractor faces is to determine what exactly “dizziness” means. There are a number of different symptoms which can be described as “dizziness”, so the first thing our office does is assess the exact nature and cause of your dizziness. This will help us accurately address those causes and treat your dizziness.
● Lightheadedness: Feeling “not right in the head”.● Presyncope: Feeling faint.● Disequilibrium: Feeling off balance, pulled to one side, or as though you could fall down easily.● Vertigo: Feeling as though the world is spinning around you, whether in short acute attacks, or as a continual low level feeling.
Many experts agree that manual manipulation, the type of treatment provided by a Chiropractor, is the most effective treatment for disturbances of equilibrium. Because dizziness is a whole-system symptom (not just caused by the inner-ear as many people believe), a patient can find a great deal of success in treating this symptom with chiropractic care.
Once a chiropractor has had a chance to determine the type of dizziness you are feeling, you may be referred out for x-rays or other tests for an accurate assessment of cause. Because dizziness can be a symptom of a more serious underlying cause, we want to rule out any potential major concerns, such as stroke, tumors or a neurological disease. Once those tests are completed, we’ll start a course of treatment targeted to reduce your symptoms.
