KNEE PAIN

Chiropractic care and Knee Pain

Whether caused by a direct injury, repetitive use, or an underlying condition, knee pain is a common complaint and can be very disruptive to everyday life. Chiropractic treatment is very effective for many of the problems that cause knee pain. Even conditions such as osteoarthritis, while not curable, can have symptoms reduced and progression limited with chiropractic treatment.

What are some of the causes of knee pain?

● Injury (ACL tear, Torn Meniscus, Knee Bursitis, Patellar Tendinitis, etc.).● Mechanical Problems (Loose cartilage or bone, Iliotibial band syndrome, etc).● Biomechanical problems (one leg shorter than another, flat feet, etc).● Excess Weight.● Arthritis.● Lack of flexibility.● Repetitive use injury.● Sports (Skiing, basketball, running, etc).

Why is chiropractic treatment effective?

The knee is a complicated, weight-bearing joint that can experience pain for a number of reasons. When a patient is experiencing knee pain, a medical doctor will frequently look only at the symptoms – and prescribe medications that can be dangerous to treat those symptoms. Rarely do medical doctors look at the underlying causes of your knee pain to discover the actual reason you are hurting.

The goal of chiropractic care is to discover and treat those underlying causes rather than just the symptoms. In our office, we will get a full overview of the causes of your symptoms – starting with a full physical inspection of the anatomical components (including the knee joint, lower back, pelvis, hip angle, and feet) and including a full medical history to determine when your symptoms began. This is important because knee pain can often be caused by conditions occurring elsewhere in the body – such as the lower back and hips. Additionally, if the joints of your body aren't in correct alignment and functioning correctly, the knee is the joint that usually ends up helping your body compensate for those structural changes, causing further injury over time.

Once we have a good idea of the cause of your knee pain, our doctors will put together a specific plan for your treatment. This plan may include chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, massage, lifestyle changes, exercises or a combination of these options. As you progress through treatment, the cause of your pain will be fixed, rather than just the symptoms, meaning you will be less likely to have reoccurring pain.

Real life patient success story

“About a year before I came to work at Cutitta Chiropractic I suffered an injury – I tripped over a box at my previous job and landed hard on my right knee. The weekend after my fall my knee began to swell – until it was about the size of a large grapefruit! I had x-rays taken and learned I had bruised my patella. After about 2 months of physical therapy I was told that I was “healed” and could return to work. But every time it rained, or I had been working long hours, my knee would hurt and I could barely function. Fast forward to 6 months of suffering later – I began to work for Dr. Cutitta and was told that I had been brought to the point most workers comp cases leave off – when I’m about 80% healed and considered “good enough” to go back to work. Dr. Cutitta took me the rest of the way to 100% healed – I can now enjoy gardening, DDR, hiking and all the activities that I had stopped because the pain was just too bad.”
